Sindhudurg to Boost Tourism in Konkan Region with New Airport
Sindhudurg Airport to Boost Konkan Tourism with Improved Connectivity and New Developments
The newly inaugurated Sindhudurg airport is set to boost tourism in Maharashtra's Konkan region, known for its beaches and the Western Ghats. With improved connectivity and new hotels, tourist arrivals are expected to increase significantly. Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray highlighted plans to establish five-star hotels, some of which have been in the pipeline for 20 years. The region will also benefit from MTDC properties, submarine tourism, and a new beach shack policy.
The airport will initially connect Sindhudurg to Mumbai under the RCS-UDAN scheme, with plans for additional flights to cities like Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. A luxury Taj hotel in Shiroda, 50 km from the airport, will further enhance tourism infrastructure, creating jobs and boosting the local economy. The Sindhudurg airport, which may eventually become an international hub, promises to significantly improve connectivity and tourism in the Konkan region.
